During the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Suns game, D’Angelo Russell and Bronny James were the highlight of the game when they showed up outside the Crypto.com arena in their luxury cars. Russell drove his $382,500 McLaren while Brownie drove his $170,350 Mercedes-Benz.
Russell signed a two-year, $37 million contract with the Lakers this summer and is making $18 million this season. However, he hasn’t been very effective on the court so far, averaging just 12.5 points per game on 35.7 percent shooting through two games.
Brownie James is recovering from cardiac arrest heart surgery. According to the latest news, he is playing very well and is ready to play for USC this season.
Russell takes Reds under his wing
Cam Reddish and D’Angelo Russell get along well as the Lakers prepare to upgrade their bench depth this season. Reddish is only 24 years old and is already on his fourth team in the NBA. However, many believe that the Lakers have the perfect mix of veterans and young players to be the ideal place for him to develop.
Russell seems to have taken on the responsibility of mentoring Reddish and taking him under his wing. When Reddish was asked which veteran was his mentor, he mentioned Russell.
Interestingly, Russell has had a similar career trajectory. The second overall pick in the 2015 draft has also played for four teams in his career, including a second stint with the Lakers. Speaking of his mentorship, Russell said that he is primarily dedicated to helping Reddish become a professional player.
Reddish has become a great defender for the Lakers, while Russell has embraced the role of a veteran. Maybe this kind of mentoring will do the Lakers some good.
