Barcelona signed a number of players in the summer transfer window, with the earliest addition being Mikayil Faye. The Senegalese defender will play for Athletic Barcelona this season, although he has trained with the first team during pre-season.
Faye has had a good start to life in Catalonia. He played well against Gimnastic, although Atlético Barcelona played with 10 men and lost 1-0.
Faye joined Barça from NK Kustosija, having spent several months playing alongside Carlos Olmo, brother of Spanish star Dani. Carlos spoke about his thoughts on Faye on the Team Barcelona podcast.
“One of my favorite things about him is that he has a very cool head.He’s a super average kid, very quiet. Unlike most talented young players, he’s very grounded.
“As a soccer player, if I had to emphasize anything, I’d tell you he’s faster than anybody. From a soccer point of view, the kid is very fast and very powerful.”
Barcelona will be hoping that Faye can prove a success during his time at the club, and if he can continue on this trajectory, he may not be too far away from first-team contention.
