Golden State Warriors overly relied on Stephen Curry early in the season

2 min read

The Golden State Warriors are 11 games into the season so far, and a common theme has emerged this early: they are overly reliant on Stephen Curry to carry the scoring load. Currently, no Warrior other than Curry is averaging more than 17 points per game, and declining offensive efficiency has been a concern for the Golden State Warriors thus far.

Curry is averaging 30.7 points per game on 68.6 percent true shooting this season, while Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins are averaging just 25.2 points per game on 49.7 percent true shooting. Warriors big man Dario Saric is the only other Warriors player besides Steph to score 20 points in the last 11 games.

This over-reliance on Curry is not sustainable in the long run, and the Warriors need to find other ways to score if they want to be successful this season. Curry is 35 years old and cannot be expected to carry the entire team on his shoulders.

Thompson and Wiggins are both capable of averaging over 20 points per game, but they have struggled to do so consistently this season. Thompson is still recovering from two major injuries and Wiggins is still trying to find his role on the team.

The Warriors need to find a way to get Thompson and Wiggins back to their old selves, and they also need to develop some other scoring options. Jordan Poole was a key contributor to the Warriors’ championship run last season, but he was traded to the Boston Celtics in the offseason.

The Warriors have some young players with the potential to be scoring options, such as Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. However, they are still raw and unproven.

The Warriors have plenty of time to fix their scoring issues, but they need to start doing so sooner rather than later. The West is very competitive this season and the Braves can’t afford to fall behind too early.
