Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp handed a debut to teenage defender Luke Chambers in the Europa League win over Toulouse, and the 19-year-old fulfilled a lifelong dream by playing 67 minutes at left-back.
Chambers was delighted to tick off a lifelong dream, saying: “It is unbelievable. I have dreamt of this moment since I was six years old. To top it off with a win, I am lost for words.
“I loved every minute of it.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold captained Liverpool on the night and praised Chambers’ performance, saying: “I saw it was seven years yesterday since it was my debut. I still know exactly how it feels, that excitement you work so hard for.
“He has put in all the hard work; he has shown himself. He has been outstanding, he has been in and around the team, on and off the pitch.
“He plays amazing football as well, so it is amazing to see him out there. He has great potential.”
Chambers said Alexander-Arnold’s words of praise were a source of inspiration, saying: “I have come through the academy. Watching Trent come through it gives us academy lads a stepping stone to try and recreate it.”
